A warm welcome to Sameer Patel, assistant conductor!
Symphony names new assistant conductor
The San Diego Symphony has named Sameer Patel assistant conductor.
Patel replaces Ken-David Masur, who has taken a similar post with the Boston Symphony.
Educated at the University of Michigan, Patel’s most recent position was associate conductor of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic. He will conduct the San Diego Symphony’s Family Festival series, many of its children’s concerts and outreach performance, and be the cover conductor for the orchestra’s Jacobs Masterworks Series.
“I am thrilled to join the San Diego Symphony as assistant conductor, and I look forward to serving both the organization and the San Diego community,” said Patel in a statement. “One of San Diego’s crown jewels is its world-class orchestra, which is at the heart of the city’s vibrant cultural life. I am excited to connect with our audience, and I am looking forward to working closely with Maestro (Jahja) Ling, the musicians, the staff and the orchestra’s many supporters.”
Patel was one of approximately 165 applicants for the position and as one of the four finalists, auditioned with the orchestra and interviewed with musicians, staff members and Ling.
