REMEMBERING PIERRE BOULEZ (1925-2016)

On the occasion of the passing of composer and conductor Pierre Boulez, San Diego Symphony CEO Martha Gilmer was recently interviewed by the San Diego Union-Tribune's George Varga about her experiences working closely with and getting to know Maestro Boulez during her time with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

"Pierre was, first and foremost, a composer that broke the rules...He was not interested in preserving the past. He was always looking for new ways of experiencing music, and he wasn’t afraid to break open the walls of a concert hall and re-imagine how we engaged with music."
