Dispatch from San Diego Symphony's Director of Public Relations: "Greetings from Shanghai, a 30-million person metropolis. What a skyline--an architectural wonder. This tour is whirlwind...rewarding, crazy, inspirational, stressful and oh yeah, even fun. The people of China have been amazingly hospitable. They have rolled out the red carpet with their friendliness and accommodating spirit at every turn. If music is the international language, then on this tour we have all learned to speak with one voice. This journey has been quite an experience, and we're not done yet. Next stop: Beijing!"

MAKING HISTORY

Yes, the San Diego Symphony is taking a giant leap forward onto the international stage as it embarks on the China Friendship Tour

First stop: Yantai, San Diego’s Sister City. (CLICK HERE to read more about the Sister Cities International program.)

Next, it’s on to Shanghai, China’s largest city and a global mecca for commerce, culture, fashion, finance, media, technology and transportation.

And then to Beijing, the nation’s legendary Capital and China's political, cultural and educational center where the San Diego Symphony will perform at the National Centre for the Performing Arts.

In December 2010, the San Diego Symphony — California’s oldest orchestra — celebrated its centennial.  Upon reaching that milestone, we began to plan our next move. To set further goals. To reach new heights. To make the city of San Diego proud of its Symphony both at home and abroad.

2013: Carnegie Hall, Beijing...and Beyond!

The China Friendship Tour is presented by Qualcomm and is made possible with generous support from Sam B. Ersan.
