Seven High School Band Performances Onstage
ADMISSION IS FREE: Public Invited to Attend (General Seating)
For the second year, the San Diego Symphony High School Band Festival will take place at the Jacobs Music Center. Bands from five high schools from San Diego and Poway Unified School Districts will perform onstage. They include: Mira Mesa High School, Serra High School, University City High School, West View High School and Rancho Bernardo High School. This high school band festival highlights the excellent music education taking place in San Diego county high schools.
Each band will perform two or three brief selections (lasting a total of about 20-25 minutes), and will be evaluated and critiqued by guest clinician Dr. Thomas Lee. Dr. Lee is the Emeritus Professor, Director of Bands and Conductor of the UCLA Wind Ensemble.
The goals of the festival are to:
- Encourage and celebrate high school music students in their pursuit of musical excellence
- Give students an opportunity to play onstage in the Jacobs Music Center
- Give students a chance to meet and work with an expert teacher and conductor
- Connect the students and teachers to the San Diego Symphony through various events
The festival will also give the teachers an opportunity to receive feedback from one of the premier music educators in the country.
