Ultimate Frisbee and craft coffee enthusiast Alex Jenkins joins the San Diego Symphony as acting section bass for the 2017-18 season.

A native of the Chicago metro area, Mr. Jenkins began playing the viola at the age of ten, but quickly realized his mistake and shortly thereafter switched to the double bass.

For the past two seasons Mr. Jenkins has performed frequently as a Jaap van Zweden Scholar with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra in addition to performances with the New World Symphony in Miami Beach. From 2010-12 Mr. Jenkins served as principal bass and assistant principal bass of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival in northern Germany.

Prior to moving to Dallas, Mr. Jenkins enjoyed performing a wide variety of non-classical music in New York City and has recorded with artists ranging from Judy Collins to Feist.

A student of Timothy Cobb and Albert Laszlo, Alex Jenkins graduated from The Juilliard School in 2014.
