Joshua Paulus has established himself as one of the most in-demand freelance hornists in the country during the last few years. He performs regularly with almost every major orchestra on the west coast, including the San Francisco Symphony – with whom he has done multiple tours and recording projects, the Seattle Symphony – his hometown orchestra – and the San Diego Symphony – who he is delighted to be joining for the 2018-2019 season as Acting 2nd Horn.

Equally at home on the recital stage or the concert hall, Mr. Paulus has performed across the United States and Europe over the course of the last decade and has held permanent positions with the Pacific Symphony, the Louisiana Philharmonic and the Des Moines Metro Opera, among others. In addition to his work as an orchestral musician, he is also an active studio musician and can be heard on many movie and video game soundtracks.

No stranger to academia either, Mr. Paulus spent several years as Instructor of Horn at Loyola University of New Orleans. He has been a featured presenter at the International Horn Symposium as well as the author of an article published by The Horn Call, the journal of the International Horn Society.

Mr. Paulus received his M.M. from Northwestern University, where he studied with Gail Williams and Bill Barnewitz, and his B.M. from the University of Dayton, where he studied with Dr. Richard Chenoweth.
