Violist Megan Wei joined the San Diego Symphony in September 2024. Previously, Ms. Wei was a substitute violist with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.

Ms. Wei’s numerous festival engagements include The Aspen Music Festival, NUME Festival, Tibor Varga Music Academy, Danish String Quartet Academy and Festival d’Aix en Provence, where her string quartet studied chamber music with members of the Berlin Philharmonic. Ms. Wei is a current member of the Baltimore Chamber Players, a collective of musicians which seeks to cultivate a vibrant and diverse music community in Baltimore, Maryland. She has performed chamber music with her teachers Choong-Jin Chang and Masao Kawasaki at The Aspen Music Festival and School, and with cellist Michael Kannen in recital halls in Baltimore. Her other chamber music mentors have included Seth Knopp, Emmanuelle Bertrand, Diana Ligeti, the American String Quartet and the Danish String Quartet, among others.

Ms. Wei is a devoted educator of the viola, with private studios in both the Bay Area and Baltimore. She has given masterclasses at both the Peabody Institute of Music and at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) as a Teaching Artist.

In 2018 Megan Wei studied abroad at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (CNSMDP) with Jean Sulem. She holds degrees from Vanderbilt University, the Manhattan School of Music, and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the Peabody Institute of Music. Her primary teachers are Victoria Chiang, Choong-Jin Chang, Samuel Rhodes, and John Kochanowski. Other important mentors include Daniel Foster, Christian Colberg, Misha Amory, Masao Kawasaki and Jennifer Stumm.
