Donor Spotlight: Kristin and Christopher Seeger

San Diego has many iconic attractions for visitors and locals alike, from its long sandy beaches and calm sunny weather to its world-renowned zoo and surrounding Balboa Park. For Kristin and Christopher Seeger, The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park™, one of San Diego’s newest features, outshines them all. “We live in the Marina District and watched The Rady Shell being built,” said Kris. “We thought that this was going to be a treasure, and we wanted to be a part of it. And now it truly is a San Diego treasure!”

Kris and Chris Seeger began their 51-year marriage in Washington, DC on Capitol Hill, where they both worked as Congressional staff members before moving on to their respective careers. They ultimately settled here in San Diego in 2014. “We literally fell in love with San Diego, its people, and its opportunities,” said Chris. “From day one of The Rady Shell construction project, we had an interest in the final product and the role that it was going to play in the community.” Kris added, “Now we walk around The Rady Shell almost every day. We take great joy in bringing friends and newcomers to The Rady Shell because we want to introduce them to the fabulous San Diego Symphony.”

The Seegers have generously contributed to The San Diego Symphony through various gifts to The Future is Hear Campaign, Symphony Summer Partners, and the Legacy Society. “The mission of the Symphony is very special,” said Kris. “We will continue to support as much as we can.” Chris added, “There is an old phrase, support it or you lose it. I would say if you want to do something that benefits everyone in this community, at all levels, support this enterprise.”

Apart from enjoying live music at The Rady Shell, the Seegers appreciate the San Diego Symphony’s Learning and Community Engagement programs. Kris noted that “reaching out to people that otherwise cannot afford to attend these special music events and making programs available to young children, school groups, and military families is very important to us.”

The Seegers also expressed a special note of gratitude to the San Diego Symphony staff and volunteers. “I am so impressed with the employees who are on the ground, who are courteous, helpful, friendly, and professional,” said Chris. “I am so grateful for all the people who, every time we walk in, greet us with a handshake and a smile, and ask what they can do to make your night more pleasant. That doesn't happen much anymore.”

“When I was growing up,” Chris added, “folks said to me, ‘Seeger, if you live in a community, be part of it and participate in it and to us that means time, effort, and money. And I never forgot that.”
