The San Diego Symphony provides Music Empowerment, a weekly therapeutic drumming program, to the inmates at Las Colinas Women’s Detention and Reentry Facility in partnership with the San Diego Women’s Drum Circle. The program promotes emotional and social growth and healing. Independent studies have shown that inmates who participate in arts and music education have up to 75% fewer disciplinary actions and were up to 30% less likely to reoffend. This is the only music-based intervention at Las Colinas.
