This unit passionately engages in many community outreach events including school talks, music classes, public concerts, and recruiting tours in order to remain close and connected to its fellow citizens.

Typically supporting over 300 commitments a year, the 1st Marine Division Band employs several different ensembles including the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, the Ceremonial Band, the Brass Band, the Popular Music Group, the Jazz Combo, and the Brass Quintet. ABOUT
San Diego-based artists Iain Gunn and Bridget Rountree are Animal Cracker Conspiracy (ACC), a contemporary hybrid puppet company invested in peering under the surface of things and pushing the boundaries of kinetic performance. Joining forces in 2004, they create performances that decenter expectations, open new avenues of thought, and invoke the uncanny. Their ongoing practice is based on a shared interest and exploration of where fine art, puppetry, performance art, physical theater, film and mixed media intersect. Traversing abstractions of movement from the material to the immaterial, folk to contemporary, and intellectual to intuitive, ACC actively cultivates the suspension of disbelief by embracing the unknown and using the manipulation of puppets to create original stories. ACC has participated in numerous national and international artist residencies, conferences, exhibitions and workshops at such institutions as La Jolla Playhouse, San Diego Symphony, Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, ArtPower, and the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center. They have received support from the Prebys Foundation, San Diego Foundation, Jim Henson Foundation, Guthman Foundation, the Heather Beth Henson Fund and The Puppet Slam Network.

ABOUT
The Baja California State Music System was born in 2021 at the initiative of Governor Marina del Pilar Avila Olmedo as a musical training program with a long-term vision for the musical future of northwestern Mexico and the Baja California Orchestra itself. Through community orchestras and choirs, the program is designed to work around the concept of music as an agent of change and with it promote a sense of belonging among young people, as well as reinforce principles of coexistence such as teamwork, community participation, solidarity, commitment, discipline and responsibility. The Redes Choir of the State Music System has its origins in the Center for Musical Arts and its "Redes 2025" program in 2010, and since then has trained children and adolescents between the ages of 6 and 17 in choral performance to promote Mexican, South American and world music, and to promote the values of identity and community responsibility. The choir has performed extensively in Baja California, Mexico and the United States. The choir has been directed since its inception by maestro Dzaya Castillo.

ABOUT

Since 1990 the San Diego Children’s Choir has been a leader in choral training for young voices and is the area's oldest and largest choral music education program for children.

The Choir offers introductory music classes for children ages 1-6 years old and a sequential age- and skill-based ensemble program for choristers ages 6-18. Choristers learn to sing music drawn from many languages, cultures, and periods of history—representing styles from medieval to modern, classical, folk, and spirituals. They perform for many diverse audiences from symphony and ballet lovers to sports fans at Padres games. Through our unique partnerships, community engagement and performances, we’re able to make an impact and create transformative experiences in young lives.

We believe all children should have access to music education and do so by offering scholarships to qualifying families, having accessible program sites throughout the county and placing free music programming in underserved schools. We’re proud to bring together children from all backgrounds through their love of singing and create a safe environment that fosters teamwork, accountability and lifelong friendships.

ABOUT
Founded in 2006, the San Diego Suzuki School of Music (SDSSM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the Suzuki principles. With a nurturing environment of their parents, peers, and highly trained teachers, we believe every child can learn music to a high ability level, just as they learn language. Through focusing on the development of the whole child, education through music is exciting and joyful within the Suzuki community and students develop an ongoing desire to learn. The SDSSM instrumental program offers violin, viola and cello instruction to students ages four and above. The Little Treble Makers program offers early childhood classes for children under four years old.

ABOUT

Voices of Our City (Voices), based in San Diego, California, amplifies the voices of people impacted by homelessness through music and the arts. Founded in 2017, the nonprofit provides a safe, creative community for its 100+ members to develop renewed hope, personal empowerment, and the life skills to achieve their goals.

In 2020, Voices of Our City Choir gained national attention after winning the Golden Buzzer on NBC's America's Got Talent with their original song, "Sounds of the Sidewalk". Voices has reached over 15,000 local audience members through more than 150 local live performances, sharing stages with acclaimed artists including San Diego Symphony Orchestra, Jason Mraz, Wyn Starks, and the living members of The Doors. Recognized for its advocacy and changing perceptions around homelessness, the National Conflict Resolution Center awarded Voices the San Diego Peacemakers Award in 2022. The Choir's impactful work is featured in the award-winning 2018 documentary The Homeless Chorus Speaks, which aired on PBS. Voices of Our City continues to grow, offering opportunities for unhoused individuals to rebuild their lives with dignity. For more information, visit www.voicesofourcity.org.
