The San Diego Symphony’s Chamber Music Series presents some of the finest artists in the world performing quintessential works and some surprising new pieces. If you’re a lover of chamber music, this series is perfect for you! Over the course of the season, you will experience great artists like Alisa Weilerstein and Pacho Flores perform at The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center in La Jolla.

BACH: Suites for Solo Cello No. 2, 4 & 6

Our Chamber Series begins with one of the greatest cellists of our time performing what many call Bach’s greatest musical achievements: the Suites for Solo Cello. Bach’s Baroque dances capture the range of human emotions: from quiet introspection to joyous dancing and celebration. Alisa Weilerstein has performed these technically demanding suites around the world to critical acclaim.

Acclaimed pianist Fabio Bidini gives us a sneak peek at our January Festival with Beethoven’s early trio that includes a jaunty set of variations on a popular opera aria from his time. Arensky’s popular First Piano Trio - full of dramatic and passionate melodies of Russian Romanticism – concludes the program.

We celebrate our January Festival with the works of a young Beethoven, whose innovations as a pianist and composer dazzled Viennese audiences. The Septet was the most popular of Beethoven’s work in his own lifetime, and in it we hear foreshadowing of the great symphonies he would later write.

Take a trip to Eastern Europe with Brahms’ Clarinet Quintet and other folk tunes influenced by “gypsy” music. Enjoy Haydn’s bewitching “Gypsy” trio and its rollicking finale. Bartók’s duos for violin take us on a trip to the Hungarian and Eastern European countryside with folk and dance tunes.

Our Chamber Music Series celebrates Jazz and Latin Music! Venezuelan trumpeter Pacho Flores performs Martinů’s “Kitchen Revue” - a delightful trip to the 1920s "Jazz Age", Paris and the sounds of hot-jazz. Sway to the sounds of Cuban-born composer Paquito D'Rivera's wind quintet as it draws from jazz and the rhythms of Latin dances.

Superstar pianist Yefim Bronfman collaborates with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra String Quartet in Schumann’s exuberant, soulful and lyrical masterpiece, the Piano Quintet. The program includes music by Schumann’s contemporaries, including Louise Farrenc, one of the few women professors at the Paris Conservatoire, who was admired by Schumann and Berlioz.
