A message from Camera Lucida Artistic Director Charles Curtis:

Dear Musical Friends:

As we return from the holidays, it is our pleasure to welcome you to our next concert, coming up on Tuesday, January 15th at 7:30pm. Join us in the superb acoustics of the Conrad Prebys Concert Hall for works by Mozart, Beethoven and Guillaume Lekeu. Ludwig Van Beethoven's youthful Trio in E-flat, WoO 38, composed in 1791, is counterbalanced by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's last work of chamber music, the String Quintet K. 614 in E-flat major, composed in the very same year as the Beethoven. In between we will hear the rarely performed, ecstatic Romanticism of Guillaume Lekeu, whose Piano Quartet dates to 1891. Lekeu died at the age of 24 before finishing the Piano Quartet; the music is astonishing in its imagination, anticipating the late Fauré, surpassing even Chausson and Franck in the sophistication of the tonal language.

Camera Lucida - the illuminated chamber, the lighted room - stands as figure for the radiance great works of chamber music bring to a space shared by musicians and listeners. Our concerts feature the outstanding solo instrumentalists of the San Diego Symphony alongside UCSD performance faculty and guests from the international chamber music world. Blending the precision and cohesiveness of an established ensemble with widely varying instrumentation, Camera Lucida is San Diego’s own chamber music project presenting vibrant, fresh and expressive performances in an intimate and acoustically perfect setting.

Our warmest wishes for a happy and prosperous New Year, and we look forward to seeing you on Tuesday evening!
