CITY LIGHTS SEASON 2014-2015

The San Diego Symphony's enhanced and revitalized Pops series, CITY LIGHTS, returns for a new season! Principal pops conductor (and award-winning Oscars® ceremony legend) Bill Conti will open CITY LIGHTS with a Halloween extravaganza of blood-chilling movie music and classic Hollywood film clips to keep you on the edge of your seat! Our tremendously popular Holiday Pops programs feature "A Celtic Celebration" and the return of popular Irish fiddler Eileen Ivers. The original Broadway cast of Jersey Boys reunites as The Midtown Men, performing the music from that little show that began right here in San Diego and went on to light up the Great White Way! Rat Pack legend Dean Martin and his music receive a loving tribute from his own daughter, Deana Martin, and then the artful Le Ombré concludes the CITY LIGHTS season with an electrifying presentation of light, shadow and music on our stage you won't soon forget!

On these the most bewitching of nights, principal pops conductor Bill Conti and the San Diego Symphony welcome you and the spirits from beyond. It’s a night of Halloween treats with a few tricks to spook, to scare—and keep you on edge of your seat! The magic, the music and the evening’s thrills ‘n chills include classic Hollywood film clips guaranteed to conjure the ghosts and goblins lurking among us. Join us for a hauntingly good time. Concert features vocalists Gary Mauer and Dee Roscioli.

VINCE GILL and THE TIME JUMPERS* - A CITY LIGHTS SPECIAL

For over 25 years, singer and guitarist Vince Gill has been a dominating presence in the world of country music. And then one Monday night he walked into a Nashville bar where The Time Jumpers were having a little bluegrass super-picking jam session. He’s been sitting in ever since! Join us for a special evening as Vince Gill opens with a set of his own hits, and then joins The Time Jumpers for a a joyous cornucopia of country, jazz and pop standards with a distinctive bluegrass swing.

With the Luck-o’-the-Irish” this holiday season, we set sail for the Emerald Isle. Grammy Award-winning and nine-time, all-Ireland fiddle champion Eileen Ivers joins the San Diego Symphony for an evening of festive Irish holiday songs including "The Holly Tree," "Don Oiche Ud im Beithil (One Night in Bethlehem)," "Hark, The Herald Angels Sing"—in traditional jig time, and "The Wexford Carol" dating back to the 12th century along with so many traditional favorites.

KENNY G: BE MY VALENTINE* - A CITY LIGHTS SPECIAL

Come spend the most romantic evening of the year with Grammy® Award-winning saxophonist Kenny G, the biggest-selling instrumental musician of our time. His easy style and smooth sounds will take you to Havana and beyond. Other favorites include "Forever in Love," "Heart and Soul," "Silhouette" and "My Heart Will Go On." Kenny G and his band will captivate and carry you and your sweetheart away. *San Diego Symphony does not appear.

Oh What A Night! Jersey Boys’ original Broadway cast (Tony Award Winner Christian Hoff, Michael Longoria, Daniel Reichard and Tony Award Nominee J Robert Spencer) celebrate the music that helped define a generation. From "Sherry" and "Big Girls Don’t Cry" to "Let’s Hang On" and "Can’t Take My Eyes Off You"…along with a string of hits from the 1960s, The Midtown Men will take you back to the beginning when four young guys sang their hearts out across the country, around the world and onto the Great White Way and the Broadway stage.

TRIBUTE TO DEAN MARTIN featuring DEANA MARTIN

Dean Martin: American icon. Member of the Rat Pack. Entertainer Extraordinaire. There's no one better to showcase his life, music and contribution to the entertainment industry than his very own daughter, Deana—a successful show business veteran herself. Deana Martin made her television debut performing on The Dean Martin Show. A sure highlight: Deana singing her father’s "Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime."

LE OMBRÉ: LIGHT, SHADOW, WONDER
Friday and Saturday, May 8 & 9, 8pm

Le Ombré offers stunning special effects and mind-blowing live elements. It’s a cast of world-class performers who wow the audience from the moment they step onto the stage with the San Diego Symphony. This show features traditional shadow art with silhouettes projected onto a large screen and performances both center stage—and in the audience! Le Ombré’s incomparable style combines breathtaking acrobatics, contemporary dance, live vocals and amusing theatrics. A visual wonder, Le Ombré is entertaining, stylish and thoroughly unique.
