HANDS ON: Play A Little, Learn A Lot

A FREE Community Day

Jacobs Music Center

For one day only, we invited the community into our concert hall for FREE* for some “hands on” piano fun! They came to Copley Symphony Hall for opportunities to perform and learn with your friends and neighbors.


Mainstage (Copley Symphony Hall):

12noon - Performance of Camille Saint-Saëns' Carnival of the Animals^ (two piano version, no orchestra) narrated by KUSI’s Dave Scott
1pm - Music Teachers Association of California Student Performances
2pm - Dr. William and Evelyn Lamden Masterclass with guest pianist Jessie Chang
3pm - Q & A with pianist Jeremy Denk and SDSO Concert Commentator Nuvi Mehta
4pm - "Monster Piano" performance featuring six pianos and multiple pianists playing music of Bizet, Joplin, Wagner and more!*

^Most appropriate for families with young children

Jacobs Music Center's Hélène and George Gould Room:

1pm - Jazz piano workshop with pianist and Hammond B-3 organist Joe Bagg
2pm - "Piano Tech" with San Diego Symphony Orchestra piano tuner Bud Fisher
3pm - "BYO Device:" A Technology and Music Workshop with the Fashion Valley Apple Store's Liam Williams

12-5pm -  “Toss-A-Tune" Game
12-5pm -  Fold an Origami Piano!

Symphony Towers Lobby

12-4pm -  "My First Lesson" presented by Villa Musica - an activity for all ages (on electronic keyboards graciously provided by So Cal Pianos), located in front of Torrey PInes Bank entrance, east side of lobby. (Reservations for "My First Lesson" are closed at this time.If space becomes available on the day of the event, you  may be able to participate.)
12-5pm -  Pianos in Public Spaces - sit down and play a tune!
