Aaron Blick joined the San Diego Symphony’s bass section in June of 2022. Born and raised in Los Angeles, he began his musical studies on the piano at age 5 and the double bass at age 11. At 16, Aaron was named a Herb Alpert Emerging Young Artist and was awarded a scholarship by the Herb Alpert Foundation to continue his musical studies. Aaron earned his Bachelor of Music Performance Degree in 2018 from Northwestern University, studying with Andrew Raciti. He then returned to LA to study with David Allen Moore at USC, earning his Master’s Degree in Music Performance in 2020.
Aaron spent two summers attending Le Academie Domaine Forget, where he was fortunate to work closely with the program’s world famous pedagogues, including François Rabbath, John Clayton and Paul Ellison. He was also invited to attend the Aspen Music Festival and the Music Academy of the West with orchestral fellowships, studying with Timothy Pitts and Nico Abondolo respectively. While attending MAW, Aaron was the double bass winner of the Keston MAX Competition. As a Keston MAX Fellow, Aaron was invited to perform with the London Symphony Orchestra and Sir Simon Rattle in Santa Barbara, and again at the Barbican Centre in London with Gianandrea Noseda.
Aaron has also spent time performing with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra, the Long Beach Symphony, the Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, Art of Elan and Le Salon de Musique chamber series in La Jolla. When not playing bass, Aaron enjoys brewing specialty coffee and spending time playing a variety of sports and games with friends.
Aaron currently performs on a modern double bass made by Christopher Savino and bows made by Jean Grunberger and Reid Hudson.
