Hanah Elizabeth Stuart, hailed as a performing artist who “wields a violin with unmistakable panache” (Theater Mania), is a member of the San Diego Symphony Orchestra, which she joined in 2016. During her tenure with the San Diego Symphony, she served as Acting Associate Principal Second Violin from 2018–2022. Previously, she was Assistant Principal Second Violin of the Utah Symphony and a member of the Grant Park Festival Orchestra. Ms. Stuart also performs regularly with the Mainly Mozart All-Star Orchestra and serves on the faculty of the Credo National Festival in Chicago. Most recently, she was appointed Concertmaster of Arizona Opera for the 2025-26 season.
She has appeared as Concertmaster of The Juilliard Orchestra, The Juilliard Chamber Orchestra and The YouTube Symphony Orchestra, and she has held numerous principal positions at festivals such as the Music Academy of the West and the Aspen Music Festival.
Her unique artistry has led her beyond the concert stage, including a turn off-Broadway in 2012 as Young Erica Morini in The Morini Strad, performing alongside Mary Beth Peil and Michael Laurence. Her media credits include Harmony Films’ documentary The Road to Carnegie Hall; CBS’s The Early Show; an internationally broadcast performance at Keshet Eilon’s Gala Concert in Tel Aviv, Israel; and Germany’s 2009 Kronberg Academy Abschlusskonzert der Meisterschüler. She has also been featured on WGN, HBO, MTV, SpikeTV’s Gamehead, and G4 at E3 Summer with her band Corporeal, as well as in the 2006 Academy Award-nominated documentary Rehearsing a Dream and numerous NPR broadcasts since 2002.
Ms. Stuart made her solo debut at age ten in a benefit concert with the Southwest Symphony and later appeared at Chicago’s Symphony Center at age sixteen. She has since soloed with several American orchestras under the batons of Nicholas McGegan, Thomas Hinds, Francesco Milioto, Allen Tinkham and others. She is also a top prizewinner of competitions including the Skokie Valley Young Artist Competition, Blount Slawson Young Artist Competition, NFAA YoungArts Awards and the Crescendo Music Awards.
An avid chamber musician, she has been presented by the Dame Myra Hess Series and Rembrandt Chamber Players in Chicago; San Diego Symphony Chamber Music Series, Camera Lucida and Art of Elan in San Diego; NISOM ChamberFest of Dubuque; and NOVA and Intermezzo Chamber Series in Salt Lake City.
Ms. Stuart holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from The Juilliard School’s accelerated program, where she studied under David Chan and Joel Smirnoff. In addition to her musical career, she is a Yoga Alliance Certified Instructor through Day1Yoga and BheemaShakti Yoga, specializing in functional movement, injury prevention and muscle imbalance.
