SYMPHONIC OLYMPICS
A Family Festival Concert
Sunday, November 11, 2012, 2pm

Ken-David Masur, conductor
Paul Maley, narrator -

Local actor Paul Maley joins us as instruments from all over the world compete to see which ones play the loudest, the softest, the highest and the lowest! San Diego Symphony musicians will go for the gold in various events such as the low note limbo, the fast note dash, the marathon and others featured in Gregory Smith’s piece Orchestra Games!

(Note, due to the SDSU basketball "Battle on the Midway" game's move from Friday to Sunday, previously announced narrator Dick Enberg will regrettably be unable to join us. He will narrate Thursday's sold out Young People's Concert, however.)

Artists,

Dick Enberg is one of America’s most beloved and honored sports broadcasters. He currently provides play-by-play for telecasts of the San Diego Padres on Fox Sports San Diego, following a long career calling various sports for such networks as NBC, CBS and ESPN. Mr. Enberg is well known for his signature catchphrase ("Oh, my!") that he uses after exciting and outstanding athletic plays.

Dick Enberg joined CBS Sports in January 2000 as play-by-play announcer for The NFL on CBS, college basketball and the U.S. Open Tennis Championships. He contributed to the Masters and PGA Championship broadcasts. Enberg also called Thursday night NFL games on Westwood One and CBS Radio Sports during the 2006 and 2007 seasons. Enberg spent 25 years with NBC Sports, beginning in 1975 as the play-by play announcer for college basketball.

Known as one of the most versatile play-by play announcers in sports broadcasting, he has taken on assignments including NFL football, the Super Bowl, the Rose and Orange Bowls, the Olympic Games (1972, 1988, 1992, 1996), the Grand Slam tournaments of tennis (Australian, French and U.S. Opens plus Wimbledon), the Masters, the PGA Championship, the U.S. Open Golf Championship, the Ryder Cup, Major League Baseball Playoffs, the World Series, heavyweight boxing championships, the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship, the NBA Playoffs and All-Star Game. Along with football, baseball, tennis, golf, basketball and boxing, he has called gymnastics, figure skating, Breeder's Cup horse racing and track and field.

Mr. Enberg is the only person to win national Emmy® Awards as a sportscaster, writer and producer. He also received a Lifetime Achievement Emmy® Award in 2000. Enberg has authored two best-selling books, Dick Enberg Oh My! and Dick Enberg's Humorous Quotes for All Occasions. Enberg is the father of six; he and his wife, Barbara, reside in La Jolla.
