MUSICAL CELEBRATIONS AND FAMILY FESTIVITIES:
MUSIC ALL AROUND US!

A Family Festival Concert
Sunday, April 21, 2013, 2pm

Ken-David Masur, conductor
Sophia Su, piano

Music really is all around us. From "Happy Birthday" to "The Wedding March," there is a song for every special occasion. The Symphony celebrates all those cherished moments with music for birthdays, graduations, weddings, dances and more!

Concert includes music of Richard Wagner ("Bridal Chorus"), Johannes Brahms("Lullaby"), Edward Elgar ("Pomp and Circumstance"), W.A. Mozart and many others.

Artists,

Sophia Su is a 13-year-old 8th grader at Thurgood Marshall Middle School. Her life has been filled with music and art since she was a little girl, and at the age of five she began to learn piano and participate in competitions. She was the winner of the San Diego Symphony’s Hot Shots Young Artist Competition in 2012, and has placed first in several Music Teacher Association of California competitions over the last few years. She has also been featured on the Music 101 program of 104.9 XLNC1-FM.

Sophia’s dream is to become a successful pianist. Over the years, she has developed a profound passion for music and would love to express her feelings with the piano and touch the hearts of those who earnestly appreciate music. Outside of piano, she plays flute, xylophone and chimes in the school band and was voted “Outstanding Musician” this year by her peers. She has a 4.0 GPA and is also an A student at Hua Xia Chinese School.

Sophia currently studies piano with Mrs. Inessa Litvin.
