The League of American Orchestras, a New York City–based national nonprofit dedicated to promoting and developing American classical music organizations and professionals, has announced today the appointment of seven new members to its governing board. In addition, the League also named seven ex-officio directors from League Member Orchestras to serve for the 2025–2026 term, including San Diego Symphony President and CEO Martha Gilmer. This marks Gilmer’s first time serving on the League’s board.
Since joining the San Diego Symphony in 2014 as its administrative leader, Gilmer has overseen a transformative period in the organization’s history. Her tenure includes such highlights as the appointment of Music Director Rafael Payare, the expansion and diversification of programming, the construction of The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park™, and, most recently, the architectural and acoustical renovation of Jacobs Music Center, the home of the San Diego Symphony, its performance hall and its administrative offices.
Beyond her work with the San Diego Symphony, Gilmer serves or has served on numerous other boards including The Greater San Diego Chamber of Commerce, The University Club, and the Solti Foundation, and was recently appointed to the Mayor’s Civic Revitalization Committee.
