This season, the San Diego Symphony celebrates the piano in all its glory — from Brahms’s Romantic passion and Chopin’s lyricism to Beethoven’s timeless grandeur, Ravel’s shimmering color, and the bold, contemporary voices of Jimmy López and John Adams.
At the heart of this journey is our partnership with Steinway & Sons, whose iconic craftsmanship helps bring each note to life. The San Diego Symphony is proud to perform exclusively on a Steinway Model D Concert Grand, the official piano of the Symphony. Every pianist you hear this season performs on this remarkable instrument — a nine-foot masterpiece known for its power, nuance, and beauty.
Audiences who joined us in October experienced Javier Perianes performing Jimmy López Ephemerae, a work of vibrant imagination. Next, Steven Osborne brings us Beethoven — the composer he calls his “first musical love” — performing the Piano Concerto No. 4 on November 20 and 21.
“Beethoven was the first composer that I fell in love with,” Osborne shared in a recent interview. “There is an incredible intellectual engagement in what he does, but it's never to be clever. It's always so profoundly in the service of what the piece of music is saying. It's his passion that really lights me up somehow.”
The season continues with extraordinary Steinway Artists and pianists:
January 17-18 Marc-Andre Hamelin, Steinway Artist
February 15 Yefim Bronfman, Steinway Artist
February 21-22 Benjamin Grosvenor
April 10-11 Conrad Tao, Steinway Artist
April 18-19 Ingrid Fliter, Steinway Artist
April 24-25 Alexandra Dovgan
Each performance invites audiences to experience the artistry, emotion, and power of the piano — brought to life on one of the world’s finest instruments.
