A native of Charlevoix, MI, Rachel Fields recently moved to San Diego to take the position as Librarian of the San Diego Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Fields, a graduate of the New England Conservatory with a degree in Trumpet Performance, began her career as a summer assistant in the Boston Symphony music library. Subsequently she spent two years in training as the Library Fellow at the New World Symphony, a post-graduate training orchestra based in Miami Beach, FL. During that time Ms. Fields had the opportunity to work as an intern in the Cleveland Orchestral library and as the Head Librarian for the Brevard Music Festival. Prior to joining the SDSO, Ms. Fields was the Music Librarian of the Spokane Symphony.
In addition to her duties as Librarian, Rachel Fields maintains a performing career as both a trumpet player and a soprano vocalist. As a trumpet player she has performed in the Spokane Symphony, the Washington-Idaho Symphony and the Spokane Civic Theatre, and she was a founding member of the Spokane Brass Quintet. As a vocalist Ms. Fields has appeared as a guest artist with the Spokane Symphony on several occasions and enjoys singing whenever she has the opportunity.
